Lack of interest, lack of posts
I know, it's been awhile since I've written, but it's been hard to come up with a satisfactory answer to the question, "What's the point?" After the passage of the bill restricting online gambling, I've just felt kinda blah about poker lately.
But, of course, there's been plenty to talk about. For one, the repercussions of the gambling restrictions have given me plenty to chew over. One interesting development was that I had two offers to buy my site right after the act passed. One just wanted to buy the name, but the other came from a poker site that apparently went out to a lot of bloggers. Their offer was to take ownership of the site but to allow the bloggers to continue operate as they have before, with the stipulation that they could only promote the purchasing site.
Though the second offer did make me curious, I never responded to it. I figure if someone else sees opportunity coming out of all this, I would be foolish to sell out for a few pieces of silver.
And I'm thinking I made a good choice, based on my short-term affiliate earnings immediate after the poker apocalypse. You see, I've never had much luck promoting the sites that used to be the most popular. I mean, with seemingly one out of every 1.5 people promoting Party Poker, there was just too much competition out there to make much headway. Instead, I had much better luck promoting a few sites that nobody else paid much attention to. It wasn't much, but it helped me pay a couple of bills each month.
Now, however, it's exploded. Fortunately, the sites I've promoted the most are among the sites that have decided to stick with U.S. players. I have to assume that's turned out to be a good move for them, because my earnings with them have grown far beyond what I would have imagined a short time ago. For instance, at one particular site, I made 10 times more in October than I did the month before, and that number looks to at least triple this month, as I made as much in the first 10 days of November as I did in all of October. Thank God for that, because Santa can use all the help he can get this year.
Still, my heart just hasn't been into poker all that much lately. I've stopped watching it on TV or reading about it, and I've seriously limited the amount of time I'm playing lately. It's not that I've been scared away. It's just that I've found other things to occupy my time.
One thing that's been considerably more fun lately is football, especially for a long time New Orleans fan such as myself. Whodathunk both the Saints and the Democrats could post wins in the same year?
